SUPER MARIO WINS IT FROM BENCH AGAIN

- BY DEREK DAVIS

MARIO VRANCIC is not bothered about not starting for Norwich while he is making such a dramatic impact from the bench.

The Bosnian (above) came on just after the hour to hit the winner, tucking away a penalty.

“Even from the bench I’m trying to have an impact,” said Vrancic, who also hit the winner at Reading the previous weekend. “I had a great impact again.

“It’s up to the boss to decide who is going to play. I got 25 minutes and obviously with a crucial goal I’m pleased. It doesn’t matter how many minutes you get, you have to use them.”

City’s fourth Championship win in a row has pushed Daniel Farke’s side into the top six and Vrancic believes the good run has a lot to do with the squad’s honesty and attitude.

That was epitomised when nominated penalty-taker Teemu Pukki said he did not feel right about taking the spot-kick and asked Vrancic to do the honours.

Pukki had been fouled by Callum Connolly for the penalty, and had another claim denied in the first half when he went down under a Chey Dunkley challenge.

“I’m so happy that Teemu was honest,” said Vrancic. “We have this momentum. With our togetherness and individual class we can score in any minute.”

Wigan failed to test City keeper Tim Krul with a single shot and have a dismal away record since being promoted.

But Latics’ midfielder Chey Dunkley said: “One minute you’re on top of the moon, the next you’re down in the dungeons. It’s a crazy division.”
