His Vauxhall Viva hit Dr Alex Boorman’s Suzuki motorbike head-on as he made his way to a night shift at York Teaching Hospital last December.
The 27-year-old, of Risborough, Bucks, was declared dead at the scene on the A19 in North Yorks. Cannabis user Rogers, of Thirsk, was over the drugdrive limit.
Prosecutor Heather Gilmore told Teesside crown
Rogers & victim Dr Alex Boorman
court motorists had seen him driving dangerously. She said of one witness: “He thought he was driving, to use his words, like a ‘f***ing idiot’.” She said of the smash: “The motorbike collided with Rogers’ car. The car flipped over three times.” A driver Rogers was overtaking “saw a fireball, black smoke, and the motorbike flying through the air”. Alex’s mum Elizabeth Cinnamon said in an impact statement: “He was such a bright light.” Rogers said in a letter of apology that his actions were “unforgivable”. He admitted charges including death by dangerous driving and was sentenced to sevenand-a-half years.
