Brexit‘hitting NHS job bids from Europe’
CRISIS NHS staffing at risk THE NHS staffing crisis may be set to worsen as tens of thousands of EU jobseekers look for work elsewhere, experts claim.
Brexit fears and sterling’s fall are being blamed for a 21% drop in healthcare job applications from the continent in the past three years.
But the hardest-hit sector is construction, with work inquiries from EU countries down 42%, jobs website Indeed reported.
It says 10% of UK building staff are EU nationals, the same figure as EU hospital doctors in England.
Indeed said: “Both the sectors already suffer skill shortages but the tap of EU workers Britain relies on is already being turned off.” ■ A no-deal Brexit would be a “disaster” for Spain, its UK tourism chief Javier Pinanes claimed last night.
