REBEL WANTS ELL OF A LOT MORE TV CASH

-

FROM BACK PAGE the rebellion that almost brought down Premier League chief Richard Scudamore (left), the Elland Road chief is preparing fresh mutiny.

He told the Leaders Sport summit at Stamford Bridge: “We should concede a club like Leeds United is watched by 500,000 to 600,000 people live on Sky, but getting only £2.5 million (from televised games). We’re penalised because we’re on TV more than 20 times, so maybe we should reconsider the system because it doesn’t work. There’s high interest, yet we lose money.

“I think other chairmen would love to open a discussion as the time’s getting near to consider how to move forward. I’m sharing these (ideas) with other chairmen, and they agree.” Radrizzani – owner of TV rights contender Eleven Sports – added: “The Championship model should be reconsidered, it’s not sustainable. There are huge gaps between clubs coming down with parachute payments and teams on lower budgets. Maybe they need to consider another way to create value, Premier League 2 or something, that is sustainable even for clubs who are not promoted.”
