HITTING NET AT CORNERS

- Pisano 80 BY LINDSAY SUTTON

BLACKBURN BRISTOL CITY 0 1 EROS PISANO is no ‘winged archer’ like the statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus.

But the classically-named Italian arrowed straight into Blackburn’s goalmouth to bundle home what proved to be the Robins’ winner.

And though it was only Pisano’s second strike of the season – his first also coming from a corner – it was enough to break the deadlock.

Pisano (above), signed from Verona two seasons ago, was delighted and said: “That’s eight wins in a row for us, not bad eh?

“I am very happy to play my part in this win. I beat my marker to the ball from the corner taken by Callum O’Dowda and in it went.

“Now I want to put behind me all the injuries I had last season after I came to England. I’m always ready when the manager calls me. It’s important I do my best because I have been welcomed by the fans and the club so well.”

Boss Lee Johnson admitted he had only put Pisano on as a substitute because Bailey Wright was in danger of picking up a second yellow card.

With a crunch week in prospect, starting against QPR tomorrow and an FA Cup-tie against Wolves next Sunday, Johnson was defiant.

Last season City’s promotion push fell away, but he said: “We welcome the extra games this season. We had nine key players who had operations last year.

“The real difference this time is to get my rotations right, get the balance correct and keep the spirit.”

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray took off Lewis Travis, who was also at risk of being red-carded, saying: “He’s still a young boy and learning the game.”
