Corbyn paid £46k in tax.. now you, PM
JEREMY Corbyn will challenge Theresa May to publish her tax returns after revealing he paid HMRC £46,074.90 last year.
The Labour leader, 69, earned £132,611 from his MP and Opposition leader salary and pensions.
Publishing his return for the fourth time, he said: “If we aim to reform our tax system to be more transparent, then politicians must lead by example.”
Mr Corbyn had to pay £6,442 of tax in one go after a discrepancy meant he was on the wrong tax code and was paying too little.
He earns £43,717 as Leader of the Opposition on top of £79,807 as MP for Islington North. He also received £6,648 in state pension and a Unison union pension of £2,438.
Top Tories repeatedly refuse to publish their tax returns but the PM did so during the 2016 Conservative leadership contest.
It revealed she paid £40,023 in income tax in 2014/15.
