Desert Island Discs named greatest radio programme

DESERT Island Discs has been named the greatest radio show of all time.

The Radio 4 programme, in which guests share the soundtrack of their lives, beat The Archers and Round The Horne to top the Radio Times list.

It was picked by a panel of industry experts including Cerys Matthews, Adrian Chiles, Caroline Wyatt and Sara Cox.

Desert Island Discs has been CASTAWAY Lauren Laverne broadcast since 1942, and is presented by Lauren Laverne. Roy Plomley, who invented the format, hosted for 43 years. Radio Times editor, Mark Frith, said: “Desert Island Discs is a deserved winner, with a back catalogue which reflects our cultural history and still remains as entertaini­ng and insightful as it ever was.” Wake Up to Wogan was the only Radio 2 show featured.
