LAMPS: WE CAN CLOSE THE GAP

- BY JAMES NURSEY

FRANK LAMPARD insists Chelsea will make next season harder for Liverpool and Manchester City.

The third-placed Blues need just four points to qualify for the Champions League after beating Norwich 1-0.

They also have an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United on Sunday.

And they are still in this year’s Champions League last 16 even though they face a daunting task trying to overturn a 3-0 deficit at Bayern Munich next month.

Boss Lampard (above) said: “I’m happy but I want a lot more. When we come back we have to tackle it and say: ‘Can we start closing that gap’?

“It is going to be a tough job. The gap is clear to Liverpool and Manchester City in terms of points.

“We are in a situation where we are a work in progress. There’s a lot to do.”

But after being restricted by a transfer ban last summer, Lampard reckons Chelsea’s efforts are encouraging. He added: “We can be pretty happy with where we are.”
