Police plea over monks abuse claims

- By Paul Ward

VICTIMS of alleged abuse by monks at two Catholic boarding schools are being encouraged to get in touch with police.

Dozens of former pupils claim they were molested and beaten by monks at Carlekemp and Fort Augustus Abbey schools between the 1950s and 1990s.

Detective Chief Inspector Pamela Ross said: “I understand that it must be very difficult to speak about such matters, but if anyone has any information about this case, they are encouraged to come forward.”

Fort Augustus in the Highlands and its feeder school Carlekamp in North Berwick, East Lothian, have since closed.
