Celts legend Boyd admits he’d love to see Hibs and Hoops face off in Scottish Cup Final at Hampden

TOM BOYD insists Celtic have no need to compromise when it comes to a Treble or the Invincible­s tag.

The former Hoops skipper believes the fairytale season can also be capped with a green and white Scottish Cup Final between Brendan Rodgers and Hibs boss Neil Lennon.

With the league title all but retained, a Cup semi-final with Rangers next month remains the next hurdle for the champions in their pursuit of a domestic clean sweep.

Lennon’s iconic status as player and gaffer at Celtic would create an intriguing sideline at the National Stadium if the Easter Road side can get past Aberdeen. But Boyd is in no doubt over the perfect scenario to bring this season to its conclusion.

He said: “A Scottish Cup Final between the holders and the champions?

“Yes, that’s the final I would like to see. The supporters would like to see that and I hope Lenny and Hibs do well against Aberdeen.

“I would like to see Hampden being a sea of green and white at the final.

“That would be a nice friendly cup final and one everyone of a green-and-white persuasion would like to see.

“It would be brilliant for Lenny to guide Hibs back to the final on the back of Alan Stubbs getting there last season with the club and winning it.

“Lenny is capable of getting his team there but unfortunat­ely he may have to content himself with taking Hibs back into the Premiershi­p as I believe Celtic will lift the Scottish Cup this season.”

Boyd reckons both Hibs and the Dons have dodged a bullet by avoiding the Hoops even if Lennon won’t admit it.

He said: “Both teams have to navigate their way past the semi-finals first of all. They have difficult ties at Hampden and need to make sure they get there first.

“Celtic were the side everyone wanted to avoid and Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has come out and admitted that but I’m not sure Lenny would have said it even if he was thinking it.
