Killie are closing on deal for Kirk

- CRAIG SWAN

ROTHERHAM will free up Kirk Broadfoot for a summer move to Kilmarnock.

The 32-year-old has been identified by interim manager Lee McCulloch as a signing for next term.

Record Sport can reveal a major stumbling block in any potential deal is set to be removed by the English outfit. Broadfoot still has a year left on his deal but having been relegated from the Championship the Millers are restructuring their squad for League One.

Having played just four games last term, it is understood Broadfoot would be released from his contract if Kilmarnock push ahead with a switch.

McCulloch has headed off for a family summer holiday without signing any deal to become permanent boss despite advanced talks.

Meanwhile, Killie have begun restructuring following Michael Johnston’s exit by appointing Kirsten Callaghan as chief executive.

Callaghan was formerly club secretary for eight years and returns to the club on a full-time basis in July.

Her appointment comes a week after Johnston quit as chairman following 15 years on the board.

Director Billy Bowie said: “Kirsten has a wealth of experience in running a Premier League club and will play an integral part in developing Kilmarnock.”
