HIBS TO LAND SERCOMBE
NEIL LENNON is ready to ramp up his Premiership preparations with the capture of Oxford United’s Liam Sercombe.
The Easter Road side are set to beat off competition from several clubs in England to land the 27-year-old goalscoring midfielder.
Sercombe fell out of favour after a bust-up with U’s boss Michael Appleton at the end of the season.
But the League One side have activated the extra year on his contract to ensure they bag a fee.
Hibs are ready to meet the valuation, which Record Sport understands to be around £100,000, to nab the playmaker who has scored 22 goals in 101 appearances for Oxford.
Sercombe came through the ranks at Exeter and helped them reach League One for the first time.
He switched to Oxford when his contract expired and quickly became a key man, scoring at Wembley in consecutive seasons in losing back-to-back Football League Trophy finals.
Sercombe was a star man for much of last term but was left out in the final few weeks for disciplinary reasons.
Lennon has been keeping tabs for months and is ready to make his move.
Oxford boss Appleton said: “We’ve had quite a few enquiries regarding him. No one has made an offer yet but I’m expecting one club to shortly.
“We’ve had a lot of people enquire about whether he’s available.”
