ANDREW JOHNSTON’S nickname is Beef but yesterday it was jam and peanut butter that helped him keep up with the chasing pack at Erin Hills.

The bearded cult icon pieced together a 73 that kept him comfortably inside the cut on two under.

Then he revealed: “I forgot to grab a few sandwiches before I went to the first tee so I asked Sean my manager to meet me at 10 – but I wasn’t expecting four.

“It was a decent day – I made a couple of mistakes that cost me two bogeys but that’s how fine the margins are at the US Open.”
