Veteran Jenkins signs up for Hurlford’s Premier bid

- FRASER WILSON

ALLAN JENKINS has signed for Hurlford United as the Blair Park side look to mount a Premier League title challenge.

The 36-year-old former Morton, Stranraer and Gretna skipper has spent the last six years with Ballymena United and admits the lure of the juniors stopped him hanging up his boots.

Darren Henderson won the race for the midfielder’s signature with another four Ayrshire clubs believed to have been interested.

Jenkins, a member of Gretna’s Premier League side 10 years ago, insists he still has the hunger to be a success in the juniors.

He said: “I had always fancied a crack at the juniors when I retired from the professional game and Hurlford United seems like a good fit.

“I was impressed with what the gaffer had to say about the club and the ambitions for the new season.

“Hopefully I can hit the ground running and help the side push on. There’s certainly enough quality in the dressing room.”
