Jetlag chemo drug hope

A DRUG used to ease jetlag could be used to prevent the painful side effects of cancer medicines, experts believe.

Melatonin given before treatment appeared to prevent chemothera­pyinduced neuropathi­c pain, which causes tingling and pain to touch and at cold temperatur­es.

However, in tests on rats, scientists at Edinburgh and Aberdeen universiti­es also found it did not alleviate pain when CINP had already developed.
