Jet­lag chemo drug hope

A DRUG used to ease jet­lag could be used to pre­vent the painful side ef­fects of can­cer medicines, ex­perts be­lieve.

Me­la­tonin given be­fore treat­ment ap­peared to pre­vent chemother­a­pyin­duced neu­ro­pathic pain, which causes tin­gling and pain to touch and at cold tem­per­a­tures.

How­ever, in tests on rats, sci­en­tists at Ed­in­burgh and Aberdeen uni­ver­si­ties also found it did not al­le­vi­ate pain when CINP had al­ready de­vel­oped.
