Sweet soap memories
READER Luke of Dundee’s letter about the spat between Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner in Coronation Street piqued my interest.
I was a 12-year-old when I watched the first episodes of the soap, which depicted a world that has completely disappeared.
I loved the characters of Ena and Elsie – the first the stern, steel-spined guardian of the local mission and the latter the soap’s answer to Jezebel, with her flame-red hair.
Thanks for jolting my memories.
