Passengers dub freezing train Polar Express
TRAVELLERS are packing a hot water bottle in their hand luggage before boarding a train that’s so cold it’s been nicknamed the Polar Express.
The West Highland line might be scenic but regular travellers on the Oban to Glasgow train say the most memorable thing about their journey is the lack of heating.
John Gallacher, from Oban, said: “One time I went on it and it was so cold that when I got off in Glasgow, I couldn’t even speak to the people I had gone to see, my teeth were chattering. I was hypothermic, it was severe.
“It’s bad, you do need a blanket and hot water bottle.”
Pat Tyrrell wrote on Facebook she was “almost hypothermic” on the trip.
Lorna Kyle also posted: “It’s been like this for years and years, hence the nickname The Polar Express.”
ScotRail Alliance said the trains were in the process of being upgraded and this would include air conditioning for heating and cooling the train.
