JAGUAR TO CUT STAFF HOURS

-

JAGUAR Land Rover have announced more than 3000 staff will move to a three-day week at their Castle Bromwich plant in the Midlands.

The move came hours after the firm’s chairman Ralf Speth was criticised by Tory MP Bernard Jenkin for warning jobs were at risk in the event STOP Brexit campaigner Gina Miller has told the Lib Dems she does not want to be their leader.

Miller, who went to court to force a Commons vote on leaving the EU, addressed the Lib Dems’ conference in Brighton yesterday.

The investment manager has been touted as a possible leader since Vince Cable revealed he’d be standing down.

He has made clear he wants to radically alter the Lib Dems’ rule book to allow non-MPs to stand in future leadership contests.

But Miller insisted she is not their “leader in waiting”.

She said: “Truth be told I am not a member of your party, or indeed any party now, but I want, all the same, to see BY TORCUIL CRICHTON of a no-deal Brexit. Jenkin said: “We’ve had figures made up by the scaremongers and … nobody believes them.”

The company, who employ 40,000 people, previously warned £80billion in UK investment was under threat due to Brexit worries. BY TORCUIL CRICHTON the Liberal Democrats thrive, because in a healthy democracy we need a strong third party, every bit as much as we need a strong opposition, and, for that matter, a strong government and a strong prime minister.”

Miller won a legal challenge in 2017 which forced the Government to get Parliamentary consent before starting the Article 50 process.

She has ruled out an “official” career in politics but last week launched a campaign to “let the people decide for themselves” on Brexit.

Her comments came as Lib Dems overwhelmingly voted for an amendment to the party’s Europe policy.

They called for Article 50 to be revoked if a no-deal Brexit is on the cards and if the Government fail to legislate for a fresh referendum.
