A man of the people
SCOTLAND has lost a very honest person and true legend of the stage and screen on the passing of Johnny Beattie.
At the grand age of 93 Johnny would still have been cracking jokes and being a gentleman, he always was. Working right up until 88 years of age in the TV Scottish soap River City, he was one of the most powerful of the cast.
As the tributes flood in from friends and stage colleagues, my personal memory has to be when I was about 12 and was taken on a night out to the Pavilion in Glasgow with my parents as my sisters were on the same stage as Johnny playing their accordions.
He took time out to come and have a chat with the family and calmed the sisters down so much.
He never had to say or do much, he was a people’s person and made everybody feel relaxed, at ease and at home. He will be sadly missed.
