L VE! MOYES READY TO BRING IN NEVILLES AS PART OF NEW BACKROOM TEAM

-

GARY NEVILLE is in the running to become David Moyes’ right-hand man at Sunderland. The Black Cats have appointed former Manchester United and Everton boss Moyes as successor to new England manager Sam Allardyce. And Moyes could keep it in the family by offering Neville’s younger brother, Phil, the chance to be part of his backroom team at the Stadium of Light. Gary, who was assistant coach in Roy Hodgson’s England regime, was sacked as Valencia boss in March after just four months with the La Liga club and has been tipped to return as a Sky Sports pundit. Phil Neville played under Moyes (right) at Everton for eight years before following him to Man United – and rejoining his former club – as first-team coach in the summer of 2013. But he left Old Trafford after Louis van Gaal took over in the wake of Moyes’ sacking in April 2014. Phil then turned down the opportunity to link up again with Moyes at Real Sociedad a little over six months later and also rejected a job with Steve McClaren at Newcastle last summer. Instead, he accepted the assistant manager’s post with Valencia under Nuno Espirito Santo and remained at the Mestalla when Gary took charge, but his future is now uncertain. Steve Round and Jimmy Lumsden, who worked with Scot Moyes at Everton and Man United, are also contenders for roles on Wearside. Meanwhile, one of Moyes’ first jobs at Sunderland may be dealing with an approach from Burnley for Jermain Defoe. Also on his to-do list are completing a permanent deal for Yann M’Vila from Rubin Kazan and a £5million move for Micah Richards from Aston Villa.
