Jimenez is closing in

-

MIGUEL ANGEL JIMENEZ never got his hands on the Claret Jug – but he is within touching distance of winning The Senior Open Championship.

After three rounds at Carnoustie, the Spaniard is four shots clear of the field at 11 under par.

Among those at seven under is Paul Broadhurst, who leads the English challenge. Alongside him are Americans Wes Short Jnr, Tom Byrum and Joe Durant.

Jimenez was in superb form on moving day in Scotland as he signed for a seven-under-par round of 65 to go with his opening pair of 70s.

Former Ryder Cup players Jesper Parnevik of Sweden and America’s Mark O’Meara are left requiring miracles at five and four under par respectively.
