6 to split Prince’s fortune

-

POP superstar Prince’s £170million fortune will be split between his sister and five half-siblings.

A judge in the USA ruled the singer’s estate will be ruled over by the six after taking a year to assess dozens of claims.

The decision by Carver County District Judge Kevin Eide comes 13 months after the star’s death.

Prince died aged 57 at his Minnesota home without leaving a will.

Judge Eide ruled that the fortune should be split between his sister Tyka Nelson, and half-siblings.

They will also decide on the business direction of the star’s estate. The Purple Rain singer died of an accidental drug overdose.

Tyka, 57, will inherit Prince’s huge fortune alongside Sharon Nelson, Norrine Nelson, John R Nelson, Omarr Baker and Alfred Jackson.

The judge needed so long to make his ruling because 45 people made claims on the estate.

Lawyers for relatives whose claims had already been rejected argued that the heirs should not be named until all appeals had been heard.

But Judge Eide said if the courts sent any rejected claimants back to him, he would consider them to be included in the inheritance.

He also said Prince’s assets would not be distributed without a formal court order. And he added that nothing would be distributed which might adversely affect the claims of those with pending appeals.
