Boris tells Tories to back May

-

BORIS Johnson yesterday urged Tory colleagues to rally around Theresa May, telling them to “circle the wagons”.

The Foreign Secretary told them to “get behind the PM” in messages on their top-level WhatsApp group.

He added: “Ordinary punters I have spoken to thought her speech was good and anyone can have a cold.”

His backing for Mrs May follows a week where there were calls for him to be sacked after he undermined her Brexit stance.

Meanwhile, Tory MP Grant Shapps claimed 30 colleagues want the PM to go amid growing demand for a leadership election.

His colleague Michael Fabricant described Mr Shapps as “embittered”, while fellow MP Vicky Ford dismissed the former party chairman as “completely out of touch”.

And Leader of the House Andrea Leadsom added: “Like a lot of my colleagues have said today, he should shut up.”
