US rapper Nelly has been arrested over allegations of sexual assault.
A woman contacted police claiming she had been attacked by the star on a tour bus, Washington officials said.
The musician, 42 – real name Cornell Haynes – had been performing at Washington’s White River Amphitheatre.
He was arrested and taken into custody less than an hour later. A statement from the Auburn Police Department, read: “A female called 911 to report that she was sexually assaulted.
“After patrol officers investigated the incident, at 4:37am Nelly was taken into custody and booked at the SCORE jail facility.
“Police are continuing to investigate this incident.”
Nelly’s lawyer claimed he was “the victim of a completely fabricated allegation”.
He said: “Our initial investigation clearly establishes the allegation is devoid of credibility and is motivated by greed and vindictiveness. I am confident, once the scurrilous accusation is thoroughly investigated, there will be no charges”
Nelly is due to arrive in the UK to perform at various venues next month.
