SIMON Cowell and X Factor bosses are counting on a long list of past judges and contestants to combat falling ratings.
I can reveal that big-name stars including Madonna, Cher, Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande will be approached to sing on the live shows.
But it is UK acts from within the XF family who are being relied on to take on Strictly in the ratings. Former judges
and and current panellists
are all expected to sing. Former XF winners
and are all provisionally booked in to perform new singles.
So too is 2009 runner-up
who will promote his up-and-coming fifth album, despite jumping ship to coach on rival show The Voice.
Louis’ former One Direction bandmate is also in talks, with more of the group rumoured to follow. Acts from outside the XF fold on Simon’s hit list include Calvin Harris, Sam Smith, Dua Lipa, George Ezra and Jess Glynne. Labrinth, who is signed to Simon’s record label Syco, is also lined up.
My source said: “A few years back the biggest pop stars in the world wanted to perform on X Factor but now they have to battle with Strictly who are pulling in an extra four million viewers. “Iconic A-listers are potentially promoting new music and up for grabs.
“But it will be past and present judges and former contestants who Simon and co will rely on week in, week out.”
