MVG is the MVP

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN claimed the Players Championship 1 title with an 8-4 triumph over Jermaine Wattimena. The first day of the 2019 ProTour season in Wigan saw Van Gerwen post four 105-plus averages to extend his unbeaten run to 18 consecutive matches.

The Dutchman began the day with victories over Luke Woodhouse, Gary Eastwood, Mickey Mansell and Mark Dudbridge.

Then he blew Jonny Clayton away 6-1 before seeing off Scott Baker 7-5 to set up a final tussle with Wattimena.
