Viv: Footie hit by race hate again

-

THE first senior black footballer to play for England warns that racism is creeping back into the game.

Viv Anderson, 63, blasted “pathetic” fines handed to abusive fans, and called for tougher sanctions.

The ace, who had bananas thrown at him early in his career, said: “I look at the Raheem Sterling thing – he was going to get a ball and then somebody racially abused him, and it went on for weeks and weeks.

“It’s slowly creeping in a bit more now than it ever did before. The fines are bordering on ridiculous.”

Anderson, first capped for England’s senior team in 1978, urged high-profile black ex-players to help.

He added: “All these people like Ian Wright are not involved in football – they’ve been doing stuff on the television, but they’re not involved in helping the next generation of footballers and black footballers.”
