Mo’s left it too late to reign in Spain

-

JAMIE CARRAGHER thinks Mo Salah is too old to seal a dream move to Spain.

The Egyptian forward, 28, caused a panic around Anfield last month when he suggested in an interview that he was open to joining Real Madrid or Barcelona after being overlooked as captain by Jurgen Klopp.

While ex-Red Carragher understands Salah (right) has a desire to test himself in La Liga, he believes cash-strapped Real and Barca would set their sights on Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland or Salah’s Kop strike partner Sadio Mane – at 28, the same age – if they had the money.

Carragher said: “Mo Salah is definitely one of those players who would look at his career and maybe want Barcelona or Real Madrid on his CV. But I think the situation now

– financially and his age

– means clubs don’t have that kind of money for him. You are talking in excess of £100million.

“I think Real Madrid and Barcelona would be looking at Mbappe or Haaland or even Mane ahead of Salah because of his age. Those two clubs are not flush with money and his contract still has some time to run.”
