Giants ace on a real downer

JERMAINE McGILLVARY admits he is terrified Huddersfield will be relegated.
And he fears Super League’s bottom club might not even get a last chance of survival in the Million Pound Game.
The England winger, 28, said: “It’s scary because we could be facing straight relegation and not even make the Million Pound Game.
“It is frightening, but it is us who have put ourselves in this position and it is up to us to get ourselves out of it.
“There are no hiding places. We have just got to go out and perform and stop tossing up absolute garbage.”
Mess
McGillvary, who will miss the opening few fixtures of the Middle 8s due to a leg injury, added: “The whole event has got me down because it brings home the reality of what an awful season we have had.
“We have put ourselves in a real mess and if we go down we will lose our jobs – and we’ve all got mortgages and bills to pay.”
The Giants sacked coach Paul Anderson in June with new boss Rick Stone arriving two weeks ago.
McGillvary said: “Everyone says we are too good to go down, or we’ve got too many good players to go down, but we’ve got to start proving that. We’ve got a new coach and everyone is a bit more upbeat in training, trying to impress him.
“He’s had two weeks to look at us and see the rubbish we’ve been playing and now he’s got time to get into the team and push on.”
Huddersfield start the Middle 8s next week at Salford, while fallen champions Leeds kick off their survival battle at Featherstone.
