LITTER PENALTY JUST QUACKERS

- By STIAN ALEXANDER

A TOWN’S squad of litter wardens has been suspended after one of them fined a woman for feeding “imaginary” ducks.

The woman was fined £80 after a warden caught her throwing breadcrumbs near the River Loose in Maidstone, Kent.

The woman said she was feeding ducks, which she is perfectly entitled to do.

But the warden claimed he “couldn’t see any ducks” and fined her for littering. The woman ® successfully appealed against the fine.

Maidstone Council later suspended the 10-strong litter squad while bosses began a review of the contract with private firm Kingdom Security.

The review is expected to be completed by Monday.

Alison Broom, chief exec of the council, said bosses wanted to study whether the service was “achieving its objectives”.
