JAKE DIXON enjoyed his first taste of the victor’s champagne so much he made it a winning double in the fourth round of the British Superbike Championship.

Riding the RAF Reserves and Regular Kawasaki, Dixon had not secured a podium finish in his previous 19 races. But there was no stopping him at Knockhill. The Folkestone rider, 21, made the most of a front-row start to dominate the opener at the Scottish circuit, running over three seconds clear of Luke Mossey. Next time out, Dixon had a fight on his hands but timed his move to perfection by easing through on the inside of James Ellison late on. He said: “I really can’t believe it. I had not been on the BSB podium before and now I have been on the top step twice. “In the first race, I was ahead and then had to keep focused, keep an eye on the job and it came easy, I didn’t have to push too much. “Then in the second race, I knew after I went back to fourth, that they would come back to me. I knew where I was strong and it is just good to be back on top for a second time. “The team has worked so hard for me and I can’t begin to describe what winning this means.” Dixon’s heroics moved him into eighth place in the standings on 66 points, but the chase for the title was blown wide open earlier in the weekend. Three of the top five riders crashed out of contention in the opening free practice. Series leader Leon Haslam was sidelined by two fractured vertebrae and concussion, Christian Iddon by a badly gashed arm and Glenn Irwin by elbow and shoulder injuries. Mossey made the most of his absent JG Speedfit Kawasaki team-mate Haslam with second and fourth-place finishes. That meant Mossey taking over the lead in the standings from Haslem, 141 to 111.
