NICE CREAM

SOAP BABE SOPHIE SWELTERS

MILLIONS of us flocked to the coast to take advantage of the hottest Father’s Day ever.

Temperatures hit a sweltering 32.1C – with Brighton alone welcoming 300,000 sunseekers over the weekend.

Thrill-seekers tombstoned off the rocks to cool off in Cullercoats Bay, North Tyneside, with experts predicting it will be even warmer today.

Scorching sunshine, humidity and lack of wind will cause the mercury to flirt with the 35.6C June record set in 1976.

Bookmaker Coral is already slashing the odds to 6-4 for the hottest summer on record, with John Hill saying: “Punters are very confident that we could be set for a record-breaking summer which means the rising mercury isn’t the only thing causing bookmakers to sweat.”

A hosepipe ban is also on the cards as experts issued a warning for relatives, friends and neighbours to keep an eye on the vulnerable and elderly over the coming days.

Medics also advised us to keep hydrated – just like Ben Baker, 10, who was enjoying the Dorset sunshine – and to slap on some sunscreen like seven-year-old Georgia Baker, who buried herself in the sand to cool off.

But the tropical-style weather is providing ideal conditions for vampire-like insects to thrive.

Swarms of horseflies armed with dangerous bites are threatening to invade Britain.

While they prefer to feast on the blood of farm animals, horseflies will also sink their gnashers into humans.

Their bites are excruciatingly painful and lead to infections which can take weeks to heal.

Peter Mills, from the Royal Horticultural Society, said: “Horseflies are arriving in abundance this year and because of the heat they are hatching out big time at the moment.

“Their bites drill through the skin and can lead to infections and bad reactions which may need a trip to the doctor.”
