Midge’s Vienna shocker
MIDGE Ure was so skint during the recording of hit song Vienna he bought his clothes from charity shops.
The Ultravox singer, 63, confessed that before hitting the big time with the 1981 hit – which got to No 2 in the charts – the band was “totally skint”.
Ure said: “We had been dropped by our record label and had to scrape around for money to get a rehearsal studio which was cold and smelly with sticky carpets. And that's where we wrote Vienna.”
He added: “Everything I wore in the video was from thrift shops. The only thing that cost money was the raincoat.”
