Charity slams knifing ‘prank’

A BIZARRE skit on America’s Got Talent that saw Mel B pretend to stab Simon Cowell has been blasted by a knife crime charity.

The segment came up in the quarter finals of the US talent show.

Mel was only using a fake blade.

But campaigners against knife crime have hit out at light hearted jokes which “trivialise” the deadly problem of weapons on the streets.

Patrick Green, a spokesman for the Ben Kinsella Trust, which works to educate young people on the deadly cost of knife crime said it is already an uphill battle to get youngsters to take the issue seriously.

He said: “Trivialisation of knife crime doesn’t help young people in terms of assessing the risks particularly in terms of carrying knives.

“They feel that if they carry a knife they can protect themselves.

“They don’t really understand the risks they run.

“This sort of thing isn’t helping young people to make safe decisions.”

Spokesmen for the show, Simon Cowell and Mel B were contacted for comment.
