THE Lost Legacy is proof that the Uncharted series can carry on without its main hero.
But while playing this sixhour expansion of the series, we still felt like we missed action man Nathan Drake.
His witty one-liners are such a part of the series that it just didn’t quite feel the same to us.
But that’s not to belittle what Naughty Dog has done with The Lost Legacy.
This is a sterling job with new protagonists Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross.
Their relationship is a world away from the blokey Drake and Sully camaraderie.
In Chloe we very much have the boss, a woman on a mission to recover an ancient Indian tusk relic who has employed toughnut protector mercenary Nadine to do her bidding.
And its a very frosty atmosphere between the two when we meet them for the first time.
But as the game progresses the pair grow on each other, the banter starts flying and you end up admiring their story arc.
Every move and action set piece feels familiar, sometimes overly familiar in a rare criticism of the series.
The gun play, running, jumping and rope swinging all quickly become second nature thanks to Naughty Dog’s well-honed joypad play.
And the first half of this epic single player campaign does feel somewhat of a re-tread of past glories despite the shiny new characters.
It’s not until the second half where the game really gets into gear and finds its own voice with Chloe and Nadine.
The Lost Legacy looks beautiful on a normal PS4.
It really pushes the machine’s graphics card to the limits.
The backdrops of jungle vistas and Indian dwellings look stunningly colourful.
And the minute-by-minute gameplay animation stuns as they switch back and forth with lifelike cut-scenes.
A classic adventure, twisting and turning and offering a strong duo to anchor the whole thing in an emotional reality.
It does the Uncharted franchise justice and proves that this series can do very well without Nathan Drake.
But it also left us pining for a fresh full Uncharted. Let’s hope Sony doesn’t leave it too long because a proper Drake/Chloe/ Sully/Nadine sequel to this would be brilliant. Another great exclusive for the PS4.
