2nd vote on Brexit!

Shock as Farage backs poll re-run

FORMER Ukip leader Nigel Farage made a dramatic U-turn yesterday by calling for a second referendum on Britain leaving the European Union.

NIGEL Farage made an extraordinary U-turn yesterday by calling for another Brexit referendum.

The former Ukip leader said a second vote on leaving the EU would stop Remainers moaning and “kill” the debate once and for all.

But fellow Brexit supporters blasted the idea and accused him of “going mad”. Mr Farage said he believed a second vote would result in Leave winning by such a big margin it would silence critics like Tony Blair and Sir Nick Clegg.

He told Channel 5’s The Wright Stuff: “What is for certain is that the Cleggs, the Blairs, the Adonises will never ever, ever give up. They will go on whinging and whining and moaning all the way through this process.

“So maybe, just maybe, I’m reaching the point of thinking that we should have a second referendum on EU membership.”

He added: “I think that if we had a second referendum on EU membership we would kill it off for a generation.”

PM Theresa May quickly ruled out a second vote.

Mr Farage’s call was supported by Ukip donor Arron Banks. He said: “The only option now is to go back to the polls and let the people shout from the rooftops their support of a true Brexit. Leave would win by a landslide.”

But other Brexit supporters slammed Mr Farage’s suggestion. Current Ukip leader Henry Bolton said the party still opposed a second referendum.

And Tory MP Crispin Blunt said: “Has he gone mad? My instinctive view is that he appears to have become deranged.”
