Giggs in mix for Wales

- By JAMES CANDY

® RYAN GIGGS has been interviewed for the Wales manager’s job. The Manchester United legend is one of three candidates being considered for the role as Wales look to install a new manager in time for the Nations League draw on January 24.

Giggs’ former Wales team-mate Craig Bellamy will also face the selection panel.

It is understood Wales’ players want former boss Chris Coleman’s assistant Osian Roberts to stay in the set-up, but it is unlikely he will get the top job.

“I think for small countries or national team associations like Wales, you’re always going to find managers who are either starting or ending their careers,” said FAW chief executive Jonathan Ford.

“We are in constant contact with the coaches who have been through our programmes as well as other former players and coaches.

“Ultimately, we’re more likely to pick people up at the start of their career than midway through.”

The next Wales manager will be offered a salary of around £300,000, significantly reduced terms from the £500,000 Coleman took home after guiding his country to the Euro 2016 semi-finals.

The money is unlikely to deter Giggs, who has waited nearly four years for an opportunity following his four games in interim charge of United. PHIL NEVILLE is set for talks with the FA over the vacant England Women manager’s job.
