KATY LEGAL BATTLE NUN DIES IN COURT

Sister begged star to halt case

A NUN locked in a vicious property dispute with Katy Perry died at a court hearing – just hours after pleading with the pop star to stop the case.

Catholic Sister Catherine Rose Holzman, 89, collapsed and couldn’t be revived during a posthearing judgment on Friday.

She had begged Katy to stop the Los Angeles court case, which centred on the sale of a £10.4million former convent. The nun said: “To Katy Perry, please stop. It’s not doing anyone any good except hurting a lot of people.”

Sister Catherine was one of two nuns locked in a legal battle with Katy, 33, over the sale of a former convent in LA.

In 2015 Katy agreed to buy the property for £10.4m with the agreement of the LA Archdiocese, headed by Archbishop Jose Gomez.

But Sister Catherine and Sister Rita Callanan, who have lived there for decades, tried to scupper the deal because they were uncomfortable selling it to the singer, whose hits include I Kissed A Girl and Ur So Gay.

Their decision reportedly came after they saw some of her music videos and heard lyrics to her songs.

Instead they tried to sell it to local restaurant owner Dana Hollister, without the approval of their Archdiocese, for around £31,000.

Katy visited the sisters during the dispute and showed them her Jesus tattoo in a bid to change their minds. Pastor’s daughter Katy even sang them a hymn during the meeting.

But they were unmoved and continued trying to sell the property, which comes with eight acres of land, to Ms Hollister.

Katy and the Catholic Church took the case to court where they successfully argued the sisters had no right to sell the property. They were awarded over £7m in damages last year.

The post-judgment hearing has been put on hold following the nun’s death.

Katy was pictured partying in a gold dress in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Friday as the news about Sister Catherine was breaking.
