Brave Ralph in epic jour­ney

COURA­GEOUS cancer suf­ferer Ralph El­lis is aim­ing to cy­cle from Lon­don to Am­s­ter­dam de­spite be­ing in the mid­dle of chemo­ther­apy.

The Daily Star sports re­porter was di­ag­nosed last year with an ag­gres­sive strain of prostate cancer.

He is be­ing joined by fam­ily and friends on Prostate Cancer UK’s Foot­ball To Am­s­ter­dam 145-mile chal­lenge, which be­gins to­mor­row.

A to­tal of 400 rid­ers, in­clud­ing for­mer Eng­land stars Alan Smith and Viv An­der­son, are rais­ing funds to help the fight against a dis­ease which kills one man ev­ery 45 min­utes in the UK.

Ralph, 61, was the Daily Star’s chief sports colum­nist in the 1990s and still con­trib­utes as a free­lance writer.

He said: “I was ad­vised to try to keep fit to help deal with the side-ef­fects of chemo­ther­apy, and my son sug­gested train­ing for this ride.”
