WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

- MIKE WARD

THE only problem I have with THE CRYSTAL MAZE (9pm, Channel 4) is that each week’s celebs are together for such a frustratingly short time. Take tonight’s typically random selection: Rachel Riley, Wayne Bridge, Charlotte Crosby, David Weir and captain Judy Murray.

Wouldn’t you just love to see that lot packed off, say, to a remote desert island for a month or more, so we could see how their teamwork held up when faced with the blistering heat, the mutant creepy-crawlies and the prospect of imminent starvation? Or is that just me? As it is, they actually do fairly well as a unit when confronted by tonight’s crystally mazy tasks, set by host Richard Ayoade. And that’s a bit frustrating as well. WHERE’S the best place to watch the ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL 2018? On the Isle Of Wight, you reckon? Nope, sorry, wrong answer.

Much though I love the Isle of Wight and everyone who lives there – apart from the drunk man I met at some traffic lights one afternoon, who staggered over to my car, shoved his can of lager through my foolishly open window and proceeded to empty its contents over my lap – I have to say the best place to actually watch this event is on the telly.

Same as pretty much any festival, if you’re honest.

Anticipating this, the canny folk at Sky have secured oodles of coverage, with Sky One showing tonight’s headline set from Kasabian (11pm) and Sky Arts bringing us heaps of other bits beforehand, from 6pm. Some of the acts that are performing include Nile Rodgers and Chic, The Script and Rod Stewart.
