Honour bid going viral

THE Brit divers who found the trapped Thai football team deserve the George Cross, say campaigners.

Heroes Rick Stanton and John Volanthen were the first to reach the stricken lads in the flooded cave.

Some of the 12 players were pictured in hospital yesterday and appeared in good spirits.

They waved to the camera as they recovered from their ordeal.

Their parents have seen them through windows but have not yet been allowed to hug them.

The Brits who discovered them were among the elite divers who flew out after the Thai authorities begged the world for help.

The last of the Wild Boars team were brought to the surface on Tuesday.

Former Tory treasurer Lord Ashcroft said the rescuers should get the highest civilian honour.

He wrote on Twitter: “Please retweet if you would support a George Cross or George Medal to the two volunteer Brit cave divers who found the missing Thai boys and participated in their difficult rescue.”

It went viral, earning more than 9,000 retweets in less than a day.

Last night a 14-year-old member of the trapped football team was also hailed as a hero.

Brainy Adul Sam-on speaks five languages, allowing him to translate for the rescue divers.
