A DOG walker who suffered horrific injuries when she fell into a quarry dragged herself to safety in a 14-hour ordeal.

Sally Nowell, 36, broke ribs and pelvis, punctured a lung and ruptured her spleen after she plunged 60ft when she tripped over her pet.

Unable to stand, she began dragging herself along on her elbows, with every move causing agony.

She spent half a day crawling through the darkness as rescue helicopters circled overhead trying to find her before she was discovered the following morning.

Stable jockey Sally is still in hospital after the ordeal two months ago but is finally well enough to talk about it.

It began when she went to check on her pets at the top of the quarry in Midsomer

Norton, Som.

She said: “I was a bit disoriented, I took a step back and tripped over a dog.”

Sally woke up – unable to walk – 90 minutes later as night was falling.

She knew she would have to crawl or risk not being found as husband Sean was not due home until late.

At one point a helicopter flew over Sally but failed to spot her. She said: “That’s when I started to panic.” But she made it to the top and was found by rescuers.

In hospital, surgeons had to resuscitate her when her heart stopped.

But she is now out of danger and has even managed to sit on one of her horses.

“It’s huge, it’s a milestone,’’ she added.
