The crime series was launched in 1997.
Fans will eventually get to see a series of specials that were made to tie in with the birthday.
The first two, with Neil Dudgeon as DCI John Barnaby, are called The Ghost Of Causton Abbey and Death Of Small Coppers and guest stars include Elaine Paige. They will air next month.
