Tory’s email ‘blun­der’

MPs were brac­ing them­selves for a Gen­eral Elec­tion last night af­ter a Tory MP ap­peared to con­firm se­cret plans for one this year.

Damian Hinds ac­ci­den­tally shared a screen­shot of an email called “GE2019 team thoughts” on In­sta­gram.

“GE” is a com­mon ab­bre­vi­a­tion for Gen­eral Elec­tion.

The ex-Ed­u­ca­tion Sec­re­tary’s post came hours af­ter min­is­ters in­sisted no elec­tion was planned. PM Boris John­son sparked spec­u­la­tion an elec­tion looms with a flurry of pol­icy an­nounce­ments.

A Labour source said: “All this does is con­firm the worst-kept se­cret in the Palace of West­min­ster.”

Mr Hinds deleted the post, claim­ing “noth­ing to see here”.
