Record wait time for A&E
THE NHS has recorded its worst A&E waiting times since current targets began in 2004.
Figures for October showed just 83.6% of patients were treated or admitted in four hours.
In September, only 76.9% of cancer patients started treatment within 62 days, well below the 85% target.
Nuffield Trust chief economist John Appleby predicted “one of the bleakest winters in the NHS’s history”.
Prof Appleby added: “We have many months to go until seasonal pressures really hit the NHS, but October has already seen an unprecedented slump.”
