Mum-to-be battles savage bird outside primary school

A PREGNANT woman had to twice fight off an enormous eagle as it tried to fly away with her

prized pooch. The bird of prey swooped on the pet outside a primary school.

Marika Smith booted the bird to fend it off but it returned and went for the Jack Russell/pug cross, called Tiny, again.

The dog was left covered in blood before Marika eventually managed to flee with Tiny by jumping into a passing car.

The mum-to-be said: “I had to kick it in the chest for it to let go and then it attacked again.

“It landed on my dog and she was screaming and crying.

“When its wings were flapping, they were bigger than me.”

Marika, 36, who is five months pregnant, was walking precious Tiny in Shoeburyness, Essex.

Tiny suffered injuries near her eyes but is expected to make a full recovery.

The only wild UK golden eagles are in the north and west of Scotland, while white-tailed eagles are mostly found in the highlands and islands to the west of Scotland.

Marika believes the one that struck Tiny was an escaped pet or trained bird.
