Cry-baby nerds want jokers sent to JAIL

BOFFINS want anyone calling them geeks, eggheads or nerds to be jailed for hate crime.

CALLING someone a nerd or geek should land you in prison, say academics.

They want terms such as egghead and brainiac to be criminalised under hate speech laws.

Other phrases such as smartarse and know-it-all are also in the firing line for discriminating against clever people.

Psychology lecturer Dr Sonja Falck says the “divisive and humiliating” anti-IQ slurs are hate crime’s “last taboo”.

The psychotherapist said the jibes, often dismissed as banter, are as offensive as some of the worst homophobic, racial, and religious slurs.

She is calling for those with the highest IQs to have the same legal protection as other minority groups.

This would help stamp out the “archaic” victimisation of more than one million Brits with a gifted IQ score of 132 or more.

She has spent eight years researching the topic and speaking to smart children, parents and other adults.

Dr Falck, of the University of East London, said: “Insulting slurs about age, disability, religion and gender identity remained in widespread use until relatively recently.

“Society at the time turned a blind eye to their impact by passing them off as harmless banter.

“It is only with the benefit of hindsight that we realise how wrong we were.

“The same can be said about anti-IQ words like nerd, brainbox, geek, egg-head, smart-arse and dweeb.” She added that the slurs were a form of bullying.
