Non-EU sales hit £376bn

UK ex­ports to non-EU coun­tries have grown five times faster than to those within the bloc, of­fi­cial fig­ures show.

Sales to non-EU coun­tries rose by 6.3% to £376.7bn in the year end­ing in Septem­ber.

Those to the EU grew 1.3% to £296.8bn, the Of­fice for Na­tional Sta­tis­tics re­vealed.

In­ter­na­tional Trade Sec­re­tary Liz Truss said: “My pri­or­ity is to strike new trade deals with key part­ners and to open up new mar­kets to Bri­tish prod­ucts.”

Trade with the US rose by 11.4% to £133.7bn over the year, and trade with Japan grew by 7.6% to £14.8bn.
