Tanks ‘too big’ for RAF
A NEW Army tank designed for fast deployment is too big for RAF planes.
Chiefs spent £3.5billion on more than 500 Ajax light reconnaissance tanks, due in service this month.
But the 42-tonne Strike Brigades, which can carry three crew and six soldiers, will only fit on RAF Airbus 400 transport planes if engineers strip the armoured side panels – which can take two days to remove and replace.
“It is unclear how the Strike Brigades would reach some operational areas rapidly”, said military journal Jane’s Defence Review.
