Gaja returns to Barbaresco

Decanter - - A MONTH IN WINE -

italy Renowned Italian producer Gaja has returned to the Barbaresco fold with three single-vineyard wines that left the classification more than a decade ago.

Costa Russi, Sorì Tildin and Sorì San Lorenzo will be labelled as Barbaresco from the 2013 vintage, following a decision taken by Gaia Gaja, daughter of winemaker Angelo Gaja ( pictured together left), and her siblings, Rossana and Giovanni. The move means that the wines will have to be made 100% from Nebbiolo. From 1996, they were classified as DOC Langhe after Angelo Gaja added up to 15% Barbera grapes to the final blend.

‘ Every generation has its own path to follow and has the right to do things in its own way,’ Gaia Gaja told Decanter.
